Tru-Gard™ at Flour Mill

Flour might seem like a light and fluffy commodity, but when you’re transporting it around in bulk, it’s heavy stuff!

And not only is it weighty, but stock turns over very quickly as well. At this busy flour mill, they really put the ‘fast’ in FMCG.

Of course, with speed and bulk usually comes added Health & Safety hazards. Both on-site personnel and visiting transport operators will encounter high risk zones as they move around the plant.

Fork trucks carrying bulk pallets of flour often have their vision obscured in some way by the product.

All of this adds up to a recipe for disaster. Our solution was to add a few measures of Tru-Gard™ Certified Safety Barrier into the mix.

This project incorporates a variety of configurations, from 910-2 barrier for vehicle-only zones, to 910-2 barrier with handrail for pedestrian access zones, and a super-solid 910-3 barrier with personnel gates for a specific “Driver Safety Zone”. The latter is a popular new initiative for plants that receive external transport contractors on site to uplift goods. Drivers often like to get out of their vehicle and stretch their legs while the goods are being loaded onto their truck. However, this is the riskiest time to be wandering around a plant that they may not be familiar with. Allocating a specific driver safety zone provides a safe place for those contractors to take a break while they wait, keeping them confined to an area that is not used by on-site vehicles. This greatly reduces the risk of accidents and serious injury to workers on the ground.

Et voilà – job done – piece of cake!
